Air Duct Cleaning in San Jose, CA
Call (408) 660-8217What duct work in San Jose actually involves
A separated flex collar does not announce itself. It dumps cooled air into a 140°F-plus attic instead of the back bedroom. You pay for that air all summer. Meanwhile the system pulls attic dust down through the gap and into the return. Waiting a season makes the deposit heavier and the cleaning longer. Older liner also tears further once it starts.
San Jose is the largest Bay Area city by area and population, and the housing reflects that spread. Vast tracts of 1950s–1970s single-story orchard-replacement ranch homes sit on slab with attic sheet metal duct and a hallway-return furnace. Those hallway returns are often unfiltered grilles with a sheet metal plenum behind them. Dust collects on the blower side first.
Evergreen, Almaden and Berryessa run 1980s–90s flex-duct subdivisions. Flex gets handled differently than rigid metal; aggressive brushing shreds the inner liner. Downtown and North San Jose condos and townhomes from the 2000s on have compact air handlers and short runs. That makes for a faster job with tighter access.
Near-continuous AC May through October moves valley dust, freeway particulate and spring grass pollen. Recent fall wildfire seasons left fine soot in returns valley-wide. Pull your return grille and look. Gray felt on the back face is the tell.

Frequently Asked Questions
- My house is a 1960s ranch with the ducts in the attic — is that a problem?
It's the most common setup we see in San Jose, and it's worth looking at. Those orchard-era single-story ranches sit on slab, so the supply trunk and branches run through the attic, where summer temperatures climb past 140°F. Sheet metal survives that heat fine, but the insulation wrap and the tape at the joints dry out and let go. If a previous owner replaced sections with flex, the liner often pulls back at the collars, meaning part of your cooled air gets dumped into the attic instead of the bedrooms. We check collar connections and the hallway return while we're in there, because cleaning ducts that are disconnected just moves dust around.
- We could smell smoke in the house during the last fall wildfire season. Is that still in the ducts?
It can be. Smoke particulate is fine, and in San Jose it mostly entered through the return side (hallway returns on older homes pull a lot of air from the living space and from gaps around the return boxes). What settles in the return plenum, the blower wheel and the first few feet of supply gets stirred up again the next time the system runs. If you still notice a faint smell when the AC kicks on in May, that's usually where it's coming from, not the furniture. Cleaning the return path and the blower assembly handles more of it than cleaning supply registers alone.
- How soon can you get out here?
San Jose is the largest city in the Bay Area by area, so scheduling depends on which side you're on. Evergreen, Almaden, Berryessa, North San Jose and downtown all get covered, but we group jobs geographically to keep drive time down. Normal turnaround is a few days. The busiest stretch is late spring, right as people run the AC for the first time after a dry winter and notice the smell or the dust, and again when fall smoke prompts calls. Booking before the May heat usually gets you a faster slot than booking during it.
- Do you ever do same-day work?
Sometimes, usually when a cancellation opens up or when you're close to a job already on the route. Call and ask. We'll tell you straight whether we can realistically be there. One thing worth knowing: if the issue is weak airflow to one room rather than general dust, same-day cleaning may not fix it. In the 1980s and 90s flex-duct subdivisions, that symptom is far more often a separated collar or a crushed flex run in the attic than a dirty duct. That's a repair conversation, not a cleaning one.
